Being a Mom

Becoming a Mom changes your entire life.  From the first moment I held that screaming chubby baby in my hands, my entire world tilted on its axis.  Of course, that might have been the fact I couldn't believe I just birthed an 8lb child, but who's counting.  When the idea I was finally a mom and responsible for raising my child sunk in, my life did change.

Being a Mom is so much more than raising a child, whether one or multiple.  It's putting your life on hold and putting someone else's needs above your own.  Because no matter what, your child is going to make an impact on this world.

I was thinking what being a Mom is all about the past few days.  I think I've come up with a list of sorts that all Moms and Dads can relate too.

1)  Being ridiculously tired, but still putting on a brave face while facing the day ahead.

2)  Sacrificing your night's sleep to hold and rock your baby to sleep because he/she is sick/teething and that is the only way they will rest.

3)  Not being afraid to catch vomit in your hands in the vain attempt to save your carpet/furniture.

4)  Realizing you forgot the bring the pacifier and sacrificing one of your fingers for your little one to chew on.

5)  Making sure your kids are always eating healthy despite the fact you are living on coffee and whatever else you can get your hands on at the time.  But damn it, the kids are not going to eat junk food!

6)  Knowing how to contain a diaper explosion while simultaneously opening a food item.

7)  Just accepting the fact, you will get spit up on you no matter what and knowing it's really not a big deal.

8)  Being an expert at juggling multiple schedules.

9)  Saying No multiple times is a common theme amongst all parents.

10)  Knowing your child will not die from having a meltdown, but you might have the inkling to kill them before its over with.

11)  Having a phone conversation without being interrupted will have to wait 18 years.

12)  Any object can and will be used as a weapon so just accept it.

13)  Have at least said once, "Unless your bleeding or dying, I don't want to hear about it."

14)  Learning vodka will get pen stains out of micro suede.  Just in case you needed another excuse to have a bottle of vodka around!

15)  Privacy?  What's that?  I've forgotten because everything that's super important has to be told to me while I'm in the shower or using the bathroom.  It can never wait!

16)  Knowing a clean house is one of those mysterious things that can never be fully accomplished because small tornadoes suddenly always appear afterward.

17)  Sometimes 5 o'clock is just to late to crack open that bottle of wine if the kids are going to survive to the time Dad comes home from work.

18)  Have something valuable to you?  Might as well hide it with a padlock wrapped in concrete buried in an unmarked grave.  Otherwise, the kids will find it and decide it is the most awesome toy in the world!

19)  Look forward to bed time because you will finally have a little bit of peace and quiet.

20)  Know that every time your son/daughter comes up to you and gives you a hug and kiss while saying 'I love you!' is the best feeling in the entire world.

For all the mom's out there that do a fantastic job every day, Happy Mother's Day!

Two pictures because I can never get all four in the frame at once :)
